How much do buds swell

Bud pinching, also known as backbuilding, is an old-school cannabis training technique that can be used to cut off the tips of your cannabis flower buds. While this technique may seem counterintuitive for many weed growers, others swear that it increases the size and density of their cannabis flowers. Bud pinching, in theory, triggers an immune response from the cannabis plant which limits vertical growth and increases horizontal growing, thereby, making your buds fatter and more swollen.

Essentially, growers believe the bud pinching focuses energy and growth hormones on its lower buds, similar to the topping technique used during the vegetative stage. Bud pinching should not be confused for topping a cannabis plant during its vegetative stage. The topping technique refers to cutting off the top of your cannabis plant to allow the growth to focus on the lower plant. Bud pinching has many benefits according to expert growers, but can be quite time-intensive for large-scale gardens.

Thread starter Botanical Shart Start date May 2, Botanical Shart Member. Hey guys and gals, Generally speaking, on a 10 week strain, at what week do buds tend to swell the most?

Botanical Shart said:. Awesome advice. Since different strains will be ready at different times, there is no magic formula to calculate how many days or weeks until your harvest, so keep an eye on those pistils and trichomes! Just be sure that your buds still look nice and healthy. Chalk it up as a learning experience. So there you have it. Great job new grower! Sign up below! Feel free to post below! Check out Growers Network University! Weeks Buds Form The stretch of your Cannabis plants will slow as we reach week four, but expect the upward growth to continue. As the cannabis plant transitions from the vegetative to the flowering stage, it will grow faster to develop stronger support in anticipation of the buds.

The rapid growth that happens during week 1 of flowering is commonly known as the stretch phase. Instead, continue feeding your plant vegetative nutrients for a week into flowering. Due to the increased vegetative growth during week 1 of flowering, you might have to do some Low-Stress Training LST to even the canopy and promote light exposure to the bud sites. At week 2, your plant will reveal its sex.

This is the stage to separate the males from the females because you risk losing your buds if the male flowers pollinate them. At week two, use flowering nutrients— more phosphorous and potassium. It now channels all its energy to bud production. Check the feeding schedule for appropriate nutrients ratios and watch for any deficiencies. The plant is focusing on producing the flowers; you should nourish it enough for the process. During week 4, you will notice many budlets.

The buds will continue growing fatter as the days go, and you might have to support branches with more buds to keep them exposed to the light. Keep a close eye on the environment and the nutrients in your medium to ensure your plant continues staying healthy.
