Our Mission Statement. Our mission at Armin Jahr Elementary is to provide guidance so students can: meet their educational needs in a safe and caring environment, acquire and apply identified essential learning skills, learn and practice social skills, contribute as responsible citizens of our school and community, and discover and reach their full potential. In order to accomplish this mission, our staff is committed to nurturing each child as a unique individual, working cooperatively with parents, modeling life-long learning, planning and implementing procedures to ensure student safety, and offering learning options for academic growth with an emphasis on the essential learning requirements.

The students and staff were Sellers' first priority. But the shooting had gained national media attention. As news vans lurked in the neighborhood, Sellers was grateful for Bremerton School District spokeswoman Patty Glaser, who kept reporters at bay.

Patty did a really nice job. Then-superintendent Flip Herdon recognized Sellers himself needed support. Herndon connected Sellers with another principal within the state who had experienced a school shooting. Sellers, in his lengthy career, has worked with students of all ages, but his heart is for the elementary crowd.

I think they can smell it on you: when you love and adore them, they know it. Sellers began as a special education teacher in Los Angeles Unified School District, where he taught adaptive physical education. He received administrative credentials from the University of Washington and in became assistant principal at Bremerton's Mountain View Middle School.

Students at this school are making far less academic progress given where they were last year, compared to similar students in the state. Very low progress with low test scores means students are starting at a low point and falling even farther behind their peers.
