20th century boys who is friend katsumata

One day one of the lucky badges in a store went missing and the owner blamed him for stealing it, which resulted in him be scolded by her and be made fun of by other kids with the ultimate strike being Fukubei telling him that was the day he died. While Fukubei's backstory wasn't something too tragic in order for him to end up becoming an evil antagonist with the dream of world domination, I aprecciate it. Usually good antagonists or villains are believed to be deeply hurt people either because of their childhood or life misfortunes later on but that wasn't really the case with Fukubei's life and childhood.

It's trully rare to see a character being so well developed and evil after having such a normal life and that's what made me enjoy every part of Fukubei's life the most, it doesn't matter if someone had a hard or smooth childhood when their desires are wicked. For Katsumata's childhood there's not much to say though, he was a normal kid that experienced bullying on a daily basis and in the end ended up collecting all the hatred he had and then take it out on humanity.

He had a typical villain childhood to say the least but that doesn't change the fact he used his role well, that's what I think at least. Fukubei since his childhood years always had a laid off and caustic personality as he would always mock anyone he found inferior to him including Sadakiyo and Katsumata.

Example of that is when he was supposed to be in the new year's Expo he used Sadakiyo as a cover in order for no one to find out he wasn't really gone while at the same time he always claimed that he wouldn't be his friend if he didn't do what he was told. Great examples of that were Yamane's case where he once disobeyed his orders and was to not talk to him for some days and Donkey's case where he was threatened to be banished when he refused to believe the "fact" that Fukubei had "come back" from the dead.

Anyway, as he grew up he became more calm and collected, always seen with a smile on his face. However his hideous and manipulative side didn't fade away and the fact that he was able to get Kiriko in his palm by just flirting with her and make people become fanatics of him just by sharing his thoughts with them was enough of a witness. One of his main aspects though is the "art of lying", he got through everything by lying just like that one time he lied to Kenji of him and his children being abandoned by his wife who got involved in some strange cult and then put into Kenji the main idea of Sadakiyo being that cult's leader after getting a handful of proof.

While not much is known about his personality since throughout the series he was mostly seen imitating Fukubei and his way of thinking the only clue we got was that when he was young he wouldn't talk much and his ambitions were way different than Fukubei's.

The contrast was big, while Fukubei wanted to create a world where only he ruled, Katsumata wanted to destroy it swiftly with an anti-proton bomb only to prove that nothing else was needed to exist apart from him.

Ultimately what is lastly known about him is the big grudge he has on Kenji for stealing the badge he himself was blamed for stealing. Aside from that he seemed to have a relieved look on his face while he drew his last breath as Kenji finally apologized to him for his irresponsibility. Admittedly there's not much to discuss here but I'd love to share the fact that no matter how you look at it Fukubei despite being an utter bully felt abandoned. While reading through the first chapters of his backstory the fact that he had one to no friends was clear as day.

He wasn't his school's famous kid but still acted like he was, merely a hint of how arrogant he really was. Katsumata on the other hand never talked, never tried to seem superior and that ended up becoming his downfall.

Without no one to express his thoughts to and be understood by Katsumata unsurprisingly kept the hate he had for humanity for himself till the point it bursted which, is logical to say the least.

Now for Fukubei's achievements I got quite a lot to mention. First achievement would definitely be him making his own team and recruiting whoever might have seemed useful to him in the future and that includes Yamane. Community Showcase More. Follow TV Tropes. And then the whole stuff about the imposter Friend started and I began to feel the fatigue a lot of people felt towards the end of 20th Century Boys. I was underwhelmed by the epilogue, 21st Century Boys , especially at the revelation of who the second Friend was. I understood the whole "imitation of an imitation" thing, but it just seemed like a cop-out. It was Katsumata, who was only mentioned as a kid who had died?

The villain trio from the childhood sect was Fukubei, Sadakiyo, and Yamane. Katsumata was just the ghost that monchan feared of seeing in the science room when he had to go back that night to turn on the fish tank Other than that, I can't recall any relations he had with the trio because he was dead.. Him being dead was only a rumor. The three Musketeers were actually four. Remember in volume 16 when Fukube looked at himself in a mirror and saw a faceless head and screamed like a girl?

It was Katsumata. Most likely. As for the whole simulation thing actually being a device to go back in the past I don't think there's actually something to understand. Naoki Urasawa clearly wanted to end his manga by any possible means, because he made it drag for too long.

I noticed during the last 5 volumes or so that Urasawa himself seems to be lost in all the hints he drops at each chapter, and realized it was a bad idea to introduce a new Friend while he could have ended his manga at Fukube's death.

So he just made this Things just happen, turn off your brain and enjoy the conclusion. PS : Pluto kicks ass. They are neither plants nor animals. They differ from other forms of life such as the micro-organisms and the fungi. Instead they resemble the primeval body of life and are generally known as Mushi.

Their existence and appearance are unknown to many and only a limited number of humans are aware of them. The ending is hilarious! Who could think that Friend 2 was Katsumata-kun There were some hints.

But I could assume such thing only jokingly. And Kenji's "changing of past" was nothing more then completing a game and correcting his mistakes, at least virtualy where he could do this.

If manga ended after Fukubei's death it would feel incomplete in diferent ways. Ok, one issue with the virtual attraction. Didn't Kanna speak to the child Kenji using her powers? Virtual Kenji relays the message to the Adult Kenji but how did the Virtual one know that if the program is based on Fukubei's memories? This sequel ruined 20th century boys for me. The protagonist magically becomes a guitar strumming hippie who's suffering from amnesia!?!

WTF are you talking about he was already a guitar strumming hippie who suffered amnesia in 20th Century Boys, 21st Century Boys was basically tying up loose ends. This is the greatest manga for me! It's super awesome! The only thing bugs me is Kanna's super power : But it's already paid to me because she's cute. My Conclusion about Katsumata: Katsumata is a forgotten guy. He's not classmate of Kenji and Co.

As you can see, Katsumata being death is just another bombastic created rumor by fukubei. That's why on their 6th grade, they have rumor about katsumata dissecting carp on science room.

Maybe because science room at night is fukubei's secret meeting place with his gang so the effect of the rumor is other kids wouldl not go there at night. Reference: 21st Century Volume 1, when the old woman from jijibaba's store attacked katsumata because of stealing the badge and then yamane and fukubei were on the scene, fukubei said that a "death penalty" is to be given to katsumata where fukubei and yamane ignore the appearance of crying katsumata "I am not the one who stole it" by fukubei saying somethign like this: I hear something but I can't see anyone Natural Child's Scheme.

And about the no face thing, those "no face" thing have only shown in virtual reality. Maybe because the virtual reality is really based from fukubei's memory and didn't have a picture or a great memory of what's katsumata's kid's face is because we knew that katsumata undergone a plastic surgery.

It's like the case of fukubei's masked character on the virtual reality. He doesn't have a normal face but have a face of an adult face of sadakiyo. Maybe because hiding the face of the two 'friends' on the virtual reality is done to make it harder to figure out who's friend. Oh gotta read another works of Naoki Urasawa. Some said it Pluto kicks ass. Signature has been deleted as it far exceeded the file size restrictions. What's the story behind that little part? I have a question that kinda bothers me..

How did Kenji survived that time? When I read the last chapter I was so godamn angry Another question.. Why didn't Kenji want to sing Bob Lennon again? Sandra-chan said: I have a question that kinda bothers me.. Fukubei doesn't exist in the movie. Fukubei there is actually Katsuma. Katsumata accept being called fukubei by everyone.

I guess removing fukubei is to lessen the character development of another character because its a movie adaptation. I think the whole series made sense if you read it all in a few days. In , Kenji stole a prize from a local candy shop, leaving Katsumata to take the blame.

He was scolded on the street in front of many of his classmates by the shopkeeper for supposedly being the thief. After, Fukubei and Yamane approached him and said that what he did was worth the penalty of death. Fukubei then proclaimed, "Today, you died," and from that point on, Katsumata was unacknowledged by his classmates. Katsumata's apparent death took place the day before the carp dissection going on at his school.

Katsumata had really been looking forward to this, and a rumor was made up that his ghost was seen carrying out the dissection in the science room that night. It was believed among Kenji's classmates that when Donkey was terrified by something in the science room, it had been the sight of Katsumata's ghost. Katsumata often dressed similar to SadaKiyo , wearing a mask to hide his face.

Because of this, the identity of the masked boy in some scenes is unclear, as SadaKiyo, Katsumata, and even Fukubei had all at one point worn the mask to disguise their identities.
